All About Standard Poodles

The Standard Poodle is the "original" Poodle, from which all other Poodles come. It is an ancient breed first seen in Germany as a water retriever.  The Standard Poodle is also one of the original hunting breeds.

The Poodle can live in nearly any size home. Though Poodles are  very active and require plenty of exercise. Poodles make an adorable, alert, highly responsive family dog.  Poodles are exceptionally intelligent and very easy to train.  With proper training, your Poodle may go well with children and other pets. Poodles however, do not readily accept  strangers and bark quite a bit. This makes them excellent watch dogs. These dogs form a strong bond with its family and needs lots of human attention. Poodles always want something to do and usually do not prefer to be idle.

The Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat sheds little to no hair. If a show dog,  a Poodle requires professional grooming. Even as a family pet, a Poodle needs daily maintenance to keep its coat clean and healthy. Its coat should be brushed frequently to avoid any tangles and mats. Poodles should be bathed regularly and clipped every six to eight weeks. The ears and eyes of the dog should be cleaned regularly and the claws should be trimmed properly. Hair around the ears, eyes and paws should be trimmed regularly.

Poodles are  generally  healthy and long living dogs.  They have few major health problems. They are prone to Hip Dysplasia, Epilepsy, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes, Heart problems, PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), Von Willenbrand's and ear infections.

If you want a smart, easy to train, loyal, versatile, and hypoallergenic dog, then a Poodle Puppy is for you.
